The Civilians’ R&D Group is comprised of theater artists from various disciplines (writers, directors, composers, performers, etc.) interested in exploring strategies for making theater from their own creative investigations and in joining The Civilians’ community of artists. The R&D Group is organized around the idea of investigative theater, which we broadly define as any creative process of inquiry that feeds the creation of a performative work. Methods may include research, interviews, and other experimental methods of inquiry.
Participation in the group culminates in the Findings Series, a works-in-progress reading series in which work developed in the group receives a 10 hour (for plays)/15 hour (for musicals) rehearsal and presentation process. Group members will also receive a stipend of $500.
